PSHE/ RSE in our Federation

All 3 of our schools are small, inclusive communities in the Forest of Dean and we are committed to nurturing the holistic development of each child. As maintained primary schools, we believe that a strong Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is essential in empowering our pupils to navigate the complexities of modern life.

Fostering Emotional Wellbeing and Healthy Lifestyles

Our PSHE curriculum, delivered through the SCARF scheme, provides a comprehensive framework for teaching key life skills. Through engaging discussions, role-playing, and interactive activities, our children learn to manage their emotions, make informed choices about their physical and mental health, and develop positive relationships with their peers.

Relationships and Safety Education

In line with the recent changes to the national curriculum, we place a strong emphasis on Relationships Education, helping our pupils to understand the importance of respect, consent, and healthy boundaries. Additionally, our PSHE lessons cover crucial topics such as online safety, personal safety, and how to seek help when needed.

Preparing for the Future

As our children progress through their primary education, we ensure that they are well-equipped for the transition to secondary school. Our PSHE programme addresses age-appropriate aspects of sex education, providing our pupils with the knowledge and confidence to navigate this important stage of their development.

Aligning with Our Vision and Values

At the heart of our PSHE curriculum is a commitment to our school's vision and values. We believe that "All different - all equal" and encourage our children to "Let your colours shine" and "Be the best you can be." Through our PSHE lessons, we empower our pupils to celebrate their individuality, develop empathy and respect for others, and strive for personal excellence.

Engaging Our Community

We understand that PSHE education is a shared responsibility between the school and our families. We actively engage with parents and carers, keeping them informed about the PSHE topics we cover and providing resources to support learning at home. By working together, we can ensure that our children receive a holistic and consistent approach to their personal, social, and emotional development.

Our PSHE curriculum is a vital component of our commitment to providing a well-rounded education that prepares our children for the challenges and opportunities of the future. We are proud to nurture the growth and development of each unique individual in our care.

Withdrawing Your Child from Aspects of RSE

We believe that Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is an important part of preparing children for life, helping them to develop healthy, respectful relationships and an understanding of the world around them.

Parents have the right to withdraw their child from some or all of the sex education elements of RSE that are not part of the national science curriculum. There is no right to withdraw from relationships education or content covered in science lessons.

If you are considering withdrawing your child from any part of RSE, we encourage you to speak with the Head of school first. This will give you an opportunity to ask questions, see the curriculum content, and understand how the lessons are delivered. Our aim is to work in partnership with families and ensure that any concerns are addressed sensitively and appropriately.
